Anti-Capitalism Protest in Portland Ends in Arrests
Bfnews: Portland police said that shortly after the march began, a standoff ensued between the protesters and riot police.

Riot police then cleared the streets and the crowd began to dissipate, leading to skirmishes with some members in the Occupy group.

A 15-year-old boy was among those detained by the riot police.

According to local media, the march was "in solidarity with Occupy Oakland and against corruption."

Several protesters said they were not only protesting against police brutality in Oakland, California, but also in Portland.

Last week, as at least 500 anti-capitalism protesters were arrested in clashes between the US police and Occupy Oakland protesters.

The Oakland turmoil was part of a weekend of developments in the Occupy movement across the US.

Riot police in Oakland fired smoke and teargas canisters at anti-corporatism activists.

The protest in Oakland was part of the Occupy movement which was inspired by the Occupy Wall Street campaign that began in New York in September, 2011.

Despite police crackdowns and mass arrests, the Occupy movement has now spread to many major US cities as well as to Australia, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Portugal and other countries.

More than 6,300 Occupy protesters have been apprehended since the start of the movement.
